Fred A. Humphries

Fred A. Humphries, born January 7, 1930, to John and Marion Humphries (nee Morehouse), died peacefully from complications of COPD on Monday, May 10, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was 86 years of age. He was a graduate of Terrace Park High School, Terrace Park, Ohio. Devoted and treasured husband of Sally Easton-Humphries; dear brother to Tom (Anita) and the late John Humphries JR., beloved father of Todd (Pat) Humphries and Debbie Fehrenbach; devoted grandfather of Ashley, Nick and Amanda Fehrenbach, Andrea (Mark) Mazdra and Samantha (Rick) Merman; great grandfather of Brayden, Carson, Dax, Eric and Sabrina. Fred was a proud Army Veteran of the Korean War, a salesman for Celotex building supplies, co-owner of Humphries Hardware and Lumber on Clough Pike in Anderson Twp., Ohio, Construction owner, vocational teacher at Live Oaks Vocational School from l979 to 1995. He started a baking business at Lehr�s Prime Market in Milford, Ohio after retirement with a Poppy Seed cake which evolved into Fred�s Confections, LLC, making 20 different pies, home-made candies such as turtles, buckeyes and fudge. One day he decided to make a Key Lime Pie. The first attempt was not to his wife�s satisfaction, so together, Fred and Sally developed their own copyrighted recipe now known and widely renowned in the area as Fred�s Famous Key Lime Pie (Copyright 2008) which became his greatest passion. Fred loved people and was a natural salesman. He had many stories he shared with people he just met as well as friends and family. He changed lives for the better through his teaching experience at Live Oaks, which was something he always tried to do for everyone. He was always optimistic and encouraging. Little children were drawn to him perhaps because he had such a kind face and smile and he loved seeing them. He was a strong but gentle man and a gentleman. There will be a Celebration of Life from 2-6 pm on Saturday, May 21st at the Patriot Center, 6660 Clough Pike, Cincinnati, OH 45244. There will be a short religious ceremony and a Poppy Ceremony for Veterans at 4 pm. In honor of Fred and to keep Fred�s Famous Key Lime Pie going and growing, there has been set up �The Fred A. Humphries Memorial Fund.� Donations can be mailed to People�s Bank, 735 Lila Avenue, Milford, OH 45150, or stop by the bank and be sure to mark on your check or when making an �in person� contribution that it is for the �Fred A. Humphries Memorial Fund.� The sole purpose of the fund will be to make capital improvements and upgrades to bring Fred�s Confections, LLC into the new way of doing business through social media, etc. and purchase some new equipment to increase capacity. Any money made to the Memorial Fund will ONLY be used for business expansion and improvement.
