James Christopher Johnston (December 13, 1950 - December 13, 2024), beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Cincinnati after a tremendous and courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was born in Troy, Ohio to Richard Elicker Johnston and Dorothy Hogan Johnston, the fourth of six children. A kind and loving brother, Jim played football for Troy High School where he met his beautiful and lifelong love, Jill, in the aisles of the Hayner Library, and attended college at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
A talented building and construction manager, Jim’s handsome work can be seen throughout the greater Cincinnati area, with projects such as the Madeira Municipal Building bicentennial steps, a remodel of Montgomery Inn, many gorgeous Marriott properties, a beautiful West Chester, Ohio Amish barn, and, most recently, various creative and modern United Dairy Farmer builds. If a summer cancer diagnosis had not caused him to take a pause, Jim would be at the job site today, as a proud General Superintendent with Jonah Development.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jill Shields Johnston of Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter
Kate Johnston Tucker and son-in-law Lee Tucker of Louisville, Kentucky, daughter Bridget
Johnston Mountjoy and son-in-law Brian Mountjoy of Danville, Kentucky, and daughter Susan
Johnston Ryan of Terrace Park, Ohio, as well as six beloved granddaughters, Sofia Tucker, Margaux Tucker, Isabella Tucker, Nina Mountjoy, Eve Mountjoy, and Betsy Ryan, in addition to numerous wonderful siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Jim offered kindness, compassion, laughter, and dignity to everyone he met and will be remembered dearly with fondness and respect by so many every day to come.
