Alice Viola Elmitt (nee Brown) 92, widow of Charles Elmitt and loving mother of Peggy and Patti. Passed away peacefully at the hospital surrounded by her daughters and son in law on January 19, 2023. She was born at home, the tenth child and fifth girl of Mabel and George Brown, in Foxborough, Massachusetts the first day of spring 1930.
Alice, a 1947 Graduate of Foxborough High School, was president of the Glee Club, a typing and shorthand award recipient. She also worked at Lily's Drug Store after school and on weekends.
Alice's family would spend time singing and playing music. After graduation, Alice and her sisters Marilyn and Thelma formed a singing trio known as the Mel-O-Dears. They spent several months traveling on singing engagements. After her singing career, Alice worked in the office of the Foxboro Company where she would meet the love of her life, Charles Elmitt. Charles, of Cincinnati, OH, also an employee of the Foxboro Company, was there to attend a training program. After a brief courtship, she left her large, loving family to join him in Cincinnati. She worked as a bookkeeper prior to Peggy and Patti's arrival, and then resumed her career once her daughters were well into grade school. She provided loving care to Charles as he battled cancer until his passing in 1998. After Alice experienced her own health issues, Patti lovingly stepped in to provide care for the last 16 years.
Alice loved life, gardening (flowers and vegetables), puzzles and counted cross stitch and was an excellent seamstress. She loved to travel. She went on cruises, and trips to England, Europe, Hawaii and Bermuda with her family. In later years, the sisters who dubbed themselves the "Golden Girls", traveled to different destinations, but most often to the beach. Their sisters in law and nieces were always invited to join the fun!
Alice had a unique gift of finding four leaf clovers. She would preserve the clovers noting the date and time of the find. Over the years, we have seen hundreds of them. She would pass on the luck by tucking one into a card or gift. Alice wrote the best letters and sent countless thank you notes. The U S Postal Service will miss her patronage. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone. She put love out into the world each day and always saw the best in every person she met.
Alice is survived by daughters, Peggy Hanrahan and Patti Savage, son-in-law Tom Hanrahan, sisters, Marilyn Weir of Vermont, Murial Bishop of Florida, brother Donald Brown of Nevada and many beloved neices, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Mabel and George Brown, as well as seven sisters (Mabel, Edna, Hazel, Janice, Thelma, Linda, Cindy) and six brothers (Vincent, Gordon, Ted, Lloyd, Sam, Konrad).
