Arnelda Foley Thornton, 92, passed away on September 3, 2026.
Arnelda was a sweet, sassy, loving, and deeply kind woman who devoted her life to her faith and her family. She loved the Lord with her whole heart, and her relationship with Jesus was an important part of who she was and how she lived.
She was a devoted homemaker who spent much of her life caring for the people she loved. Her home was a place where family gathered, especially during the holidays, and many treasured memories were made together in her kitchen. She was an excellent cook and baker and was especially known within her family for her deviled eggs and chocolate cake.
Arnelda was a member of Landmark Baptist Church and enjoyed participating in church activities, including the Jolly 60s. She also loved to travel and enjoyed trips with members of her church community.
One of Arnelda’s great loves was Elvis Presley. She was fortunate enough to see him perform in concert and passed that love of his music on to her family. Singing Elvis songs in the car, watching his movies, and listening to his gospel music became cherished memories for those closest to her.
Arnelda had a way of reminding the people she loved to slow down, take care of themselves, and enjoy life. She encouraged kindness even when kindness was not returned and would often remind her family to “hang in there” because things could get better.
She shared more than sixty years of marriage with her beloved husband, Cecil, and the love and devotion they shared left a lasting example for their family.
Arnelda leaves behind a family who loved her dearly, including Dennis Thorton, David Barringer, Sherri Barringer, Ryan Barringer, and Ash Barringer, along with extended family and friends whose lives were made better by knowing her.
She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her humor and sass, her generous heart, her devotion to family, and the unconditional love she gave so freely.
A graveside service will be held in her honor on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Landmark Memorial Gardens in Cincinnati, Ohio, beginning at 1:00 PM.
Arnelda will be deeply missed, but the love she gave, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will remain with her family for generations to come.
