On May 4, 2026, Barry Sargent, entered into the presence of the Savior he had come to love so deeply, leaving behind a testimony that touched countless lives. His story is ultimately one of redemption, faith, and unwavering love for his family. While his family grieves the loss of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, they also rejoice in the incredible transformation God brought into his life over the last year. Barry’s journey reminded everyone around him that it is never too late for grace, healing, and a changed heart.
Born on October 20, 1960, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Barry was known throughout his life as a hardworking, dependable, and deeply loving man. He dedicated 38 years of faithful service to General Electric, where he earned the respect of coworkers and friends through his integrity and tireless work ethic. But after surviving a devastating brain bleed a little over a year ago and being declared brain dead, Barry experienced not only a physical miracle, but a spiritual one as well. In the midst of that battle, he fully surrendered his life to Jesus. From that moment forward those closest to him, everyone he came in contact with and even complete strangers he encountered, witnessed a profound change in the way he lived, loved, and carried himself. His final year was marked by a deep joy, renewed purpose, gratitude, gentleness, and an unmistakable passion for his faith and family.
A devoted member of The Growing Place Church in Norwood, Ohio, Barry openly loved the Lord and became a living testimony of God’s faithfulness and grace. He was a constant inspiration to those around him with his resilience in reminding everyone who knew him that God still changes lives and still works miracles.
Barry found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He loved hunting, being outdoors, and spending time in his garage. He enjoyed cruising in his prized GTO and took pride in working with his hands. Woodworking became one of the ways he expressed love to his family, carefully crafting handmade heirlooms that will forever hold pieces of him. Whether building something in his garage, sharing stories, teasing his grandkids, or sitting quietly with the people he loved, Barry made ordinary moments unforgettable.
Above everything else, Barry loved his family fiercely. His greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was the life he built alongside his beloved wife of 46 years, Tammy (née Collins) Sargent. Their marriage was one marked by loyalty, laughter, perseverance, and unconditional love. Together they raised five children who adored him: Kristen (Eric) Magaw, Karissa (Kory) Heidel, Adam Sargent, Kaitlyn (Clayton) Armstead, and Mya Sargent.
Barry absolutely cherished being a Grandpa and BoBo. His grandchildren brought him endless joy: Kylee Magaw, Alivia Magaw, Emily Magaw, Addison Heidel, Chandler Armstead, Cameron Heidel, Maddox Armstead, Savannah Heidel, Jackson Armstead, Oakleigh Heidel, and Landen Heidel. Some of their favorite memories will forever be riding around with him on his quad, hearing about the playful pranks he was always pulling, watching him build things with his hands, and simply knowing they were deeply loved by him. His presence made life feel safe, steady, and full of warmth.
Barry is also survived by his loving mother, Nancy Sargent; his sister, Sherry Ellison; sisters-in-law Cathy (Eric) Huhn and Cyndi (Tim) Briggs; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Sargent, and his in-laws, Neal and Jean Collins.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barry’s life at The Growing Place Church, 3728 Floral Ave., Norwood, Ohio 45212. Visitation will be held Friday, May 8, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with funeral services immediately following at 7:00 PM. Graveside services will take place Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Goshen Cemetery, Old St. Rt. 28, Goshen, Ohio 45122.
Barry Sargent lived a life that truly mattered. He loved deeply, worked hard, served faithfully, and left this world far better than he found it. Though his family’s hearts are broken, they rejoice knowing that Barry is now fully healed and in the presence of the Savior he came to love so deeply. His life was a testimony of enduring faith, sacrificial love, redemption, quiet strength and his memory will continue to live on in every story shared, every lesson remembered, every handcrafted gift treasured, and every life he touched.
