Betty Jo Jarvis

Betty Jo Stevens Jarvis February 2, 1950- February 4, 2025

Betty J. Jarvis passed away at the age of 75 following a courageous battle with colon cancer. The daughter of William J. Stevens Sr and Virgie Inez Stevens, Betty (or Betty Jo, as her family called her) entered this life in Fort Dix, New Jersey, the fourth of eight children to be born to her family. She enjoyed being part of a large family, and especially all the inevitable chaos and excitement it brought (and to which she happily contributed her fair share). Betty was a graduate of Lower Richland High School, Hopkins, South Carolina class of 1968. After high school Betty married Arlis C. Kelley (Deceased) where they produced 3 children Patrick C. Kelley, (deceased), Wanda A. Becknell (David), a granddaughter Audrey J. Becknell, and Rev. Michael S. Kelley (better known as Hair Kelley). After a divorce in 1986 she remained single and raised her 2 kids. In 1998 Betty married Thomas E. Jarvis, Sr.(deceased). He brought to the marriage 2 children Thomas Jr and Brittany to which she helped him raise to adulthood. She tragically lost Tom after only 7 years of marriage. She lived in Columbia, South Carolina most of her life until 2023 when she moved up to Ohio to be with her daughter and son-in-law. She resided at The Lodge Retirement Community until her death. She is survived by her brother William J. Stevens, Jr (Anita), Mary S. Hall, (Tom) Carla S. Gignilliat (Read), her children, granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Betty has had many different jobs in her life, but the ones she is most noted for are mother, daughter, sister and friend. In lieu of flowers and gifts please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
