It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that the Walker family of Milford, Ohio, must announce the passing of beloved husband, father and grandfather, David Lee Walker, age 79.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Matracia Walker of 60 years, with whom he shared an incredible life of love and companionship like no other.
He is also survived by his daughters; Lori Walker-Huelsman (Ronald), Victoria Walker (Randolph Coleman), Susan Bare (Gary) and grandchildren; Lillian and Isabella Huelsman, Walker and Silas Coleman, Kelsey (Cameron) Jones, Madeline (Christian) Todd, Rachel Bare, Abigail Bare and great grandchildren; Rowan Todd and Aurora Jones.
And is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Donald Walker of Blanchester, Ohio, brother, Gene Walker of Springfield, Ohio and James Walker also of Blanchester, Ohio.
David was a 1957 graduate of Dixie Heights High School where he formed close cherished friendships that would last a lifetime and was a proud member of the Dixie Colonels football team. In 2012 he was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame. He also attended Morehead State University.
David began his career at age 13 working for his father at Burger Brewing Company and retired 17 years ago as a transport driver for Walmart, where he received numerous awards for outstanding service. He was a career long member of the Teamsters.
In addition to being the world's best husband, father, grandfather (Poppy) and friend, David was also an avid model train enthusiast, farmer, woodworker, hand model, photographer and traveler.
He and wife Mary were long time volunteers at the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati for 15 years, Cincinnati Music Hall for 13 years and members of the Aronoff Center Emeritus program.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Monday, January 29th 2018 (David's 80th birthday) at the Drees Pavilion at the Devou Memorial Overlook, 790 Park Ln., Covington, KY 41011. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial ceremony at 3:00 p.m.
