Doris Marie Metcalfe, aged 90, passed away on July 13, 2023, in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. She was born on July 7, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Doris was a loving and spirited person who had a passion for antiques, gardening, and sewing. Her beautiful, light blue eyes lit up when she spent time with her family and loved ones.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Carol Fischer-Nickum, Susan Lubis, Jennifer Baum, and Patricia Reynolds, as well as her son, Richard Fischer. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Wissman, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fischer.
Doris was a steadfast Bengals fan (Who Dey!) and delighted her family with her feisty demeanor. She enjoyed being challenged by the daily puzzles on Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. In her earlier years, she was also an avid reader and a talented floral arranger. Unfortunately, her joke-telling skills left something to be desired.
Doris was a heartfelt supporter of nature and animals, and demonstrated her commitment through supporting the Cincinnati Zoo, The Humane Society of the United States, and Birds and Blooms Magazine. She was also extremely dedicated to donating blood and proudly declared being “one pint short of sixteen gallons” donated in her lifetime.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Doris's life will be held at Graceland Memorial Gardens on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 10AM. Following the ceremony, friends and family are invited to an off-site reception.
Please join the family in remembering Doris and celebrating her life.
Donations in remembrance of Doris can be made to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer’s Association, and The Humane Society of the United States, all organizations that were dear to her heart.
