Dr. Ernest Watson Chick, 82, of Milford, Ohio, passed away June 12, 2010 at his home. Ernest was born in Lynchburg, Virginia and later moved to Durham, North Carolina where he graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1953. He completed an internship in Pathology at the University of Kansas followed by residency in Pathology at the Medical College of Georgia. His medical training was completed through fellowships at the Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Chick was internationally recognized for his expertise and research in mycology, specifically blastomycosis, and hystoplasmosis. He made a difference in the lives of well over a thousand young physicians as professor of Medicine at Duke University, West Virginia University, the University of Kentucky, and Marshall University . Dr. Chick was a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Epidemiological Association, the American Board of Microbiology, and the American Thoracic Society. Ernest was involved in many pursuits during his life, including horses, fishing, woodcarving, and travel. Ernest is survived by his wife and best friend of 58 years, JoAnn Kelbert Chick; ,three sons: Leland Chick MD, Blair Chick MD, Major Mark Chick,USAF Ret., and two daughters, Teresa Chick, and Marianne Chick, ten wonderful grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, George Kelbert. He was also blessed with an abundance of cherished friends. We will all miss him. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, 6/15/2010, at 3:30pm at Craver-Riggs Funeral Home & Crematory. In leiu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Clermont County Animal Shelter, 4025 Filager Road, Batavia, OH 45103-8924.
