BERGER, Earl B., 90, of Fayetteville, OH. Stepfather of Doris L. (Floyd) Brate of Williamsburg, OH; stepgrandfather of Amy L. (Fred) Brate-Tipton of Williamsburg, OH, Michael (Tracy) Brate of Richwood, KY, Candi Thorton of Blanchester, OH, Jennifer McCoppin of Kettering, OH, Jason McCoppin of Kettering, OH, Christopher McCoppin of Kettering and eight great-grandchildren; brother of Lucille Glenn of Kenwood, OH, Kenneth Berger of Newtonsville, OH, Regina Catron of Mt. Orab, OH and Agnes Houk of St. Martin, OH; uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Berger passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Clara J. (née Nolan) Berger; his parents, Matthew J. and Louese Berger; his son, Earl B. Berger, Jr.; a stepson, Harry Donald McCoppin; three sisters, Evelyn Molinari, Gertrude Vilvens and Bernice Vilvens; and five brothers, Lawrence Berger, Matthew Berger, Jr., Andrew Berger, George Berger and William Berger.
Mr. Berger was the former Mayor of Fayetteville for 19 years and secretary of the S.W. Ohio Firefighters Association. He represented the Village of Fayetteville in 1957 as a Goodwill Ambassador to the Republic of France during the LaFayette Bicentennial in Paris, France. In 1962 he acquired the first federal grant to establish the Village of Fayetteville Water Works. Mr. Berger helped to organize the Ohio Valley Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter. He was Brown County Commissioner from 1980 to time of retirement in 1997. Mr. Berger served on Brown County Hospital Board for several years, volunteered at United Way and was a lifelong member of St. Angela Merici Parish, St. Patrick Chapel.
