Elizabeth "Betty" McDonald, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on May 31, 1939, Betty's impact on the lives she touched will be fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Betty enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring from the New York Life Insurance Company after many years of dedicated service. Following her retirement, she brought joy and learning to countless young minds as a preschool teacher's aid at the Fayetteville Schools. Betty’s nurturing spirit also extended beyond her work; she became an active member of New Hope Baptist Church and attended River Hills Church, finding a second family within her faith community.
Betty had a remarkable talent for bringing people together. She had a passion for baking, often creating delightful cakes that became the centerpiece of family gatherings and celebrations. As a talented quilter, Betty's creations were more than mere fabric; they were pieces of art imbued with love and warmth. Her commitment to service shone brightly throughout her life, as she volunteered for numerous community events, including the Fayetteville Marching Band, youth soccer, and Bible School. She was also a proud Girl Scout volunteer, helping to guide future generations with her kindness and patience.
Traveling with her family was one of Betty's greatest joys, and those trips were filled with laughter, storytelling, and cherished memories that will remain forever in the hearts of her loved ones.
Betty leaves behind her loving children, Jonathan (Lisa) Jakeway of Fayetteville, OH, and Jennifer (Jason) Collins of Mt. Orab, OH. She is also survived by her dear stepchildren, Jean (Cliff) Gidlund of Wausau, WI, George (Janet) McDonald Jr. of Ashville, NC, and Dan McDonald of Cincinnati, OH. The legacy of her love continues with her cherished grandchildren: Ashley Jakeway, Jonas Jakeway, Avery Jakeway, Bryson Collins, Serenity Collins, Jaxson Collins, and Jaelyn Collins, who will carry forward her spirit of kindness and generosity.
Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mabel White, and several siblings: brothers Arthur, David, James, Charles, and John White, and sisters Margaret Corbett and Frances Collins. She was further preceded in death by her stepson, Tom McDonald.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty’s extraordinary life during visitation at River Hills Church, located at 3068 US 50, Fayetteville, OH, on November 14, 2025, from 5 PM to 7 PM. The funeral service will be held the following day, November 15, 2025, at 9 AM, also at River Hills Church.
Betty McDonald’s immense love and warmth will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her spirit will live on in the hearts and lives of all who knew her.
