Elmer James Hubka

Elmer James Hubka, beloved husband of 67 years to Jane (née Porter) Hubka and devoted father of Meredith (Mark) Safarik and Alison (Tim) Witherby died May 4, 2023 in his home. He was 94 years of age. Elmer was born in Virginia, Nebraska on March 16, 1929. His parents, Jim and Rose Hubka, owned a farm there and Elmer enjoyed helping the threshing crews harvest and other farm chores. Elmer built an entire car from spare parts when he was 14 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lawrence, who died in 2021.

Elmer earned a degree in engineering from the University of Nebraska and was hired by General Electric to work on the J79 jet engine. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma engineering honor society. Elmer was an avid gardener and a “Mister Fix It” for all kinds of projects. He was a member of the Model A Ford Club, a devotee of his retired men’s bridge group at the Bridge Center, and a volunteer at the Cincinnati Nature Center.

Elmer will be sorely missed by his family and friends and his cat, Sophie. Funeral to be held Sunday May 21st at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with reception to follow at the Terrace Park Country Club. Megie Funeral Home & Crematory in Milford, OH is serving the family.
