Ethel Mae Fender, a cherished member of the Sardinia community and beloved by many, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, in Seaman. Born on June 2, 1934, in Georgetown, Ethel lived a full life marked by love, resilience, and a profound devotion to her faith and family.
Ethel’s journey through life was one of courage; she fought a hard battle with cancer with remarkable strength and grace, never allowing pain to overshadow her spirit. Her unwavering faith in the Lord and her close connection to her church family at Sardinia Church of Christ were central to her life. For more than two decades, Ethel and her late husband Darold Fender shared the joy of owning and operating a Tastee Freeze, a beloved local spot, where they not only served the community but also created lasting memories.
Ethel’s gentle spirit was evident in her many passions. She loved sewing, a craft that reflected her patience and creativity, and she took great joy in working in her flower beds, nurturing beauty and life with tender care. The simple pleasure she found in sending and receiving cards highlighted her warm, thoughtful nature, always eager to connect with others and brighten their days.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Margaret Mann; her husband of 49 years, Darold Fender; and her son, Charles Frank, and brother Charles Mann. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Ethel’s legacy continues through the love and devotion of her living family, friends, and church community. She will be deeply missed by all the Fender family, her many friends, and her dear SCC Family. Among those who held a special place in her heart were her close friends Benda Ellis, Janie Poe, and Jamie Yochum, who shared in the joys and challenges of life alongside her.
A visitation will be held at the Sardinia Church of Christ, located at 7130 Bachman Rd, Sardinia, OH 45171, on May 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed immediately by the funeral service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. This gathering will honor Ethel’s life, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and all whose lives she touched to come together in remembrance and love.
Ethel Mae Fender’s life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and faith. Though she has departed from this world, the impact of her love and spirit will forever remain, a gentle light guiding those she leaves behind. Rest in peace, dear Ethel. You will be missed but never forgotten.
