Frank Samuel Benini was born in Acosta, PA in 1936 and passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 26, 2022, in Milford, OH, at the age of 85. He played in the band, serving as a drum major at Boswell High School, where he graduated in 1954. After school Frank joined the Army and became a military policeman, where he served 3 years, some of that time during the Korean War. He returned home to become a Pennsylvania State Trooper. He was a member of the State Police Drill Team, narcotics division leader, Firearms Instructor and the State Police Rodeo working with horses and motorcycles. He retired from the PA State Police in 1994 after 35 years as a Corporal in charge of the Criminal Investigation Section. Frank was a dedicated, best friend and husband of 56 years to Diane ( Richardson) Benini, a very loving and always protective Father of Kristina (Greg) Fox and Tony (Allison) Benini, a supportive, charismatic, funny, caring, proud Pap who was an incredible role model to Patrick, Christian, & Luke Fox and Alex Benini (his grandsons). He was a beloved Uncle to all his many nieces and nephews, and a great buddy to his fur babies Desi and Luci. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Luigi and Elvira Benini and his four older siblings, Alcide “Bull” Benini, Anna Thomas, Anchilla Smith and Adriano “Arnold” Benini. The surname “Benini” was derived from the Latin “Benedictus”, a name meaning “Blessed”. This medieval name owes its popularity to St. Benedict, who founded the Benedictine order of monks at Monte Cassino and who wrote a monastic rule that formed a model for all subsequent rules. The name was brought into England in the wake of the Norman Conquest. The Latin form—alongside versions derived from the Old French form—include Beneit, Benoit, and Bennet. We are the descendants of Elvira Zanoni and Luigi “Louis” Benini, born in Cologna, northern Italy, in the Dolomite Mountains. Frank was a “Family First, always!” guy, a storyteller, a jokester, always teaching life lessons, very active with the kids and grandchildren, and was very charismatic to all who knew him. He liked to tell stories to all who would listen and led a very active life golfing, shooting pool in local VFW leagues, hunting, traveling, and being with his family. He led by example, was a disciplinarian but always loving. As a Veteran of the Korean War, he received many honors and service awards while he served his country A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in New Kensington PA in August 2022. The exact date will be released once arrangements have been made. He will be buried in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery with Military and State Police honors. The family would like to thank Crossroads Hospice for their loving care and compassion of Frank and his family through this most difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Crossroads Hospice, 4380 Glendale-Milford Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45242 or to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) in Frank’s memory.
