Howard 'Howie' Schmidt

Howard "Howie" R. Schmidt was born to Roy and Hilda Schmidt in Detroit, MI. He was married to Ernestine "Ernie" Fick on September 20, 1952. Howie was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and a citizen soldier who served his community and country. He sang for over fifty years in five different Lutheran Church choirs and was a cofounder and charter member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection (LCR). Lt. Colonel Schmidt had many military decorations. He retired from the United States Army in 1982 and from AT&T in 1989. He was a life member of the AT&T Pioneers, the United States Reserve Officer Association, the National Guard Association of Michigan and the United States, and the Old Detroit Light Guard. He is survived by five children; Kathy (Mitch) Hirth of Kennesaw, GA, Nancy Dagle of Henderson, NV, Robert (Mary) Schmidt of Joliet, IL, Diane (Rob) Roeckner, Richard (Chris) Schmidt both of Cincinnati, OH, and also five grandchildren, Bobby (Patti) Roeckner, Joe and Emmalyn Roeckner, Alex Schmidt, Lori (Michael) Carpenter, two great grandchildren Ava Carpenter and Blake Roeckner and a sister Charlotte McGill of Harrison Twp, MI. He was preceded in death by Ernestine, his wife for over sixty years, his daughter Gail, and his sister June Gibson. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. A gathering will be 10:00 am, Monday, September 17, 2018 until time of Memorial service, 11:00 am, all at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 1950 Nagel Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45255.
