Janet I. Watkins

Janet Webb Watkins, long-time resident of Terrace Park and Milford, passed

away May 22nd, 2023, at the age of 91 years. Janet was born on August 2nd,

1931 in Tollesboro, Kentucky to Maude and Roland Webb. She grew up part of a

large farm family, milking cows before going to school and helping care for

younger siblings. Jan often said that her mother, a schoolteacher, and farm

wife, taught her the importance of a good education and her father, a

farmer, taught her to love nature. As a young woman, Jan moved to

Cincinnati for work. There she met Dan Watkins; they married in 1957 and

had two daughters. Jan continued to return to the family farm regularly to

help in any way she could. Jan’s love of nature led to a long career at

Cincinnati Nature Center, which was her second family until her retirement

in 2004. Bird watching, especially hummingbirds, was the highlight of Jan’s

later years. Survivors include Jan's brothers, Greg and Larry Webb, Jennifer

Watkins, Port Ludlow, WA., Laura (Lolly) and Jeff Taylor and grandsons

Porter Taylor (Rebecca), Brice Taylor (Lindsay), Jordan Taylor and Cody

Taylor, as well as five great grandchildren.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorials
