Jean Catherine Grider, a dedicated educator and cherished member of her community, passed away on April 17, 2026, in Mason, Ohio. Born on August 1, 1928, in Leesburg, Ohio, Jean lived a life marked by devotion to teaching, family, and lifelong learning.
A graduate of Mount Orab High School in 1945, Jean pursued higher education with great commitment and earned a master’s degree. Her passion for education was evident in a remarkable career spanning over six decades. She taught at Mount Orab High School and Western Brown, proudly contributing her expertise during the inaugural year Southern Hills opened, and later at U.S. Grant Career. Jean's love for teaching was not only reflected in her long tenure but also in her enthusiasm for subjects related to shorthand, accounting, filing, and all things business. Her tireless work ethic and generous spirit were inspiring to her students and colleagues alike.
Jean cherished her family deeply and found joy in traveling with friends and relatives, taking every opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories. Known for her kindness, loving nature, and generosity, she was a source of comfort and warmth to those around her. Beyond her professional life, Jean was an avid shopper and a woman of many interests. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Orab Methodist Church, where she served in many roles.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Pam (Chuck) Taylor, Carla (Pete) Pemberton, Lisa James, and Paula (Jackie) Moore. Jean was a proud grandmother to Megan Moore, Amber (J.D.) McAlister, Matthew Pemberton, Trey (Tabetha) Moore, Meredith (Tyler) Fulciniti, Dylan (Myriam) James, who carry forward her legacy with affection. Her great-grandchildren—Peyton McAlister, Chase McAlister, Layla Wallingford, Amara Moore, and Emery Jean McAlister—also hold a special place in her heart.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ida Shope; her son, Timothy Grider; and her sister, Mary Bingaman.
Family, friends, and all who knew Jean are invited to honor her life at a viewing on April 22, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Both events will be held at Megie Funeral Home, located at 104 Spice Street, Mt. Orab, Ohio.
Jean Catherine Grider’s life was one of dedication, love, and service. Her legacy as an educator and beloved family matriarch will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her.
