John "Jack" Carl Bernhardt

John “Jack” Carl Bernhardt Jr., the son of John C Bernhardt and Margaret “Peggy” Sullivan, was born in Newark, New Jersey on July 13, 1943, and passed away December 22, 2022 at his home in Sardinia, Ohio, at the age of 79 years and 144 days.


Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Borsos and Patricia Pearson, and son Jason Bernhardt.


Jack did not know a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.


Jack’s hobbies included an extensive model train collection. He enjoyed recorded music and has a collection that included vinyl records, 8 track tapes, and cassette tapes. He enjoyed playing Scrabble. He was a regular attendee at the Mount Orab United Methodist Church and helped with the church’s food pantry ministry.


Jack worked in the automotive repair industry most of his adult life, primarily in auto body repair. Jack had a gift for diagnosing automotive mechanical issues. He was a gifted carpenter and furniture maker, as well as a Journeyman Electrician.


Jack will be sadly missed by his wife Dottie Bernhardt, sons Christopher and wife Kathy Bernhardt of Pennsauken, New Jersey, Clifford Bernhardt of House Springs, Missouri, his sisters Dorothy (Ed) Valentine of Ocala, FL; Carol (Bill) Smith of Mount Orab, OH; Kelley (Tim) Kay of Wilmington, OH; brothers Steve (Debbie) Bernhardt, of Mount Orab, OH; Ken Schumpelt of Sardinia, OH; his grandchildren, and a host of friends, relatives, and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Jack, because he made them feel special.


The family is being served by Megie Funeral Homes. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Following cremation, a future Celebration of Life memorial service will be planned.


If desired, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Mount Orab United Methodist Church food pantry.
