On August 22, 2025, our lives were forever changed with the tragic passing of our beautiful son Jonathan Bailey Geers, as the result of a traffic accident. There is no collection of words that could properly express the depth of our sorrow nor do justice to the warmth and radiance of his soul. Bailey to most and Jon to many, he was happiness and strength personified.
Bailey's adoring parents, Frank and Sonya Geers, his brothers, Max and Charlie, his grandparents, Jim and Diane Geers, the late Gene Hess, and his bestest sidekick Grandma Gayle; his aunts and uncles, Todd (Carolyn) Geers, Nicole Geers, Randolph Hess, cousins, Peyton and Hope Geers, Randy and Christian Hess, his honor aunt Jen Michaelson; and the one he held closest to his heart–his love, Mary Grace Kauper will cherish the time they had with him, though it was far too short.
Bailey was born on June 14, 1997, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He lived the ideal childhood, growing up in Terrace Park running through the woods and playing by the river with his pack of boys. A 2015 graduate of Mariemont High School, he was a leader, a mentor, and a loyal friend. From backyard games on summer nights, to crazy schemes dreamed up by the brothers–their adventures and stories will be passed down for generations.
The bond Bailey shared with his brothers, Max and Charlie, was truly special. The Geers boys, including his dad Frank, were inseparable when he was little, and somehow managed to grow even closer as they became young men. Sunday family dinners, cornhole tournaments, and game nights brought a ruckus to the house that Sonya loved, and that even the neighbors could hear! In spite of being from a Steelers clan, Bailey loved to support the Bengals with his dad. Bailey’s family was his superpower, and he was their Clark Kent.
Bailey was a passionate person who lived life BIG. Like the character Maverick, whom he admired, he was always up for new adventures, from skydiving to beekeeping, to serving as assistant snake-wrangler to his brother. He even briefly entertained the goal of becoming an EDM DJ, soon to be better known as Jon the Astronut! Fearless and free-spirited, traveling the world was Bailey’s passion and he embraced each day with boundless energy and optimism that inspired those around him.
Affectionately called “Jon Smiley” by his colleagues at Aero Fulfillment where he did IT work, Bailey’s unwavering positivity was a celebrated trait. Guided by his great love of people and a passion for mixology, Bailey also tended bar at Bishop’s Quarter in Loveland, where he was always drawn back to his BQ family and surrounded by fond regulars whom he treated as such. He had a remarkable ability for making people feel welcome.
Bailey was getting ready for his greatest adventure, life with his soulmate Mary Grace. Even though the plans they made will remain unrealized, his love for her will burn bright and guide her through. She will forever carry his spirit into this next chapter.
In the last note he wrote to Mary Grace, Bailey shared, “No matter how difficult a day we have, we find a way to smile and laugh.” This was how he lived his life–undeterred by hardship, if he ever encountered a roadblock, he didn’t just go around, he built a new road.
Much like the Cincinnati Strongman he had tattooed on his arm, Bailey was a huge and charming presence with an even bigger heart. Friends recall that every greeting was met with the brightest smile, and nearly every sentence he spoke would end with a laugh. He has left an unforgettable impression on so many lives, and his happiness has truly made a difference in the world.
Bailey’s toast to every drink he poured was, “Arriba, abajo, al centro, pa’ dentro.” To my friends, you are never above me, never below me, never away from me and always with me.
A celebration of life service will be held on October 25th at 4:00 pm at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Terrace Park.
