Laura Damico

Laura Damico, age 92 formerly of Windber, passed away peacefully November 11, 2021, at Marjorie P. Lee Retirement Community in Cincinnati, OH.
Laura was born December 24, 1928, in Cairnbrook, PA, to the late Walter and Helen (nee' Irla) Nowacki. Laura was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert Damico in 1999, her infant son, John Anthony, her stepfather John Petrosky, and her siblings, Rudolph, Louis, George, Veronica, and Cecilia. Laura is survived by her sister, Sophie Theile of Parsippany, NJ, sons, Richard (Lisa) of Cincinnati, OH, Frank (and friend Cindy Stadterman) of Ridgecrest, CA, and Matthew (Heather Barnes) of Grass Valley, CA, her grandchildren, Jacqueline Damico Amador, of Cincinnati, OH, Nicholas, of Rifle, CO, and Aldo, of Grass Valley, CA, and great grandchildren, Leonardo and Mateo Amador.
Laura was a 1946 graduate of Harrison High School in Harrison, NJ. Shortly after graduation, she became the secretary to the Advertising Director of The Newark Star Ledger for 6 years. She often spoke fondly of the position, as well as modeling for the newspaper on numerous occasions. In the 1970's and early 80's, while raising her family, she waitressed at Rizzos Restaurant in Windber.
Laura met her husband on a blind date while visiting family in Cairnbrook. She enjoyed cooking while watching her bird feeder from the kitchen window. She was a very accomplished seamstress. The outfits she created for her granddaughters American Girl dolls were extraordinary in beauty and detail.
Most important to Laura was her family. She was a very loving and attentive mother and grandmother, always positive and encouraging. Her three sons all attest that as a Mom she was nearly faultless.
She was a former member of T.O.P.S., Red Hat Society, and Farm Womens Society.
Laura will always be loved, cherished, and deeply missed by her family.
A Memorial Service will be held in Cincinnati and another one followed by Inurnment in Windber will be held at a later date.
