Mary James

Mary James, a woman of unwavering strength, boundless energy, and deep faith, passed away on May 5, 2026, in Blue Ash, Ohio. Born on November 18, 1931, in Fayetteville, Ohio, Mary embodied the spirit of independence and resilience throughout her life. Known affectionately as the "Energizer Bunny" by those who knew her, she never ceased to inspire with her tenacity and zest for life. Above all else, Mary’s heart belonged to God and her cherished family and friends.

Mary’s life was richly woven with her passions and commitments. She was an avid bowler, whose enthusiasm for the sport brought joy and camaraderie to her days. Her dedication also extended to her active participation in the Eastern Star, first at Linden Chapter #348, then Mt. Orab Chapter #514. For 72 years she enjoyed socializing with friends, as well as the travel opportunities that she had through the order, and her spiritual home in the Fayetteville Methodist Church and later, Trinity United Methodist Church. These communities were a source of friendship and faith, providing Mary with a place to serve and celebrate life.

Mary’s home was never empty of warmth, with her beloved fur baby, Sugar the cat, who survives her and remained a faithful companion. Her family was the center of her world; she is lovingly survived by her daughter Phoebe Smith (and husband Larry), along with her grandsons Matthew and Kyle Smith. Mary also leaves behind her sister-in-law Lydia Jordan, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.

Her journey in this world was preceded by those she loved and held dear: her husband, Joseph E. James; brothers George A. Binkley (and Eloise), Jim R. Jordan (and Florence), Clarence M. Jordan, Dick Jordan, and Robin Jordan (and Loyce), and Sid A. Jordan; sisters Phyllis C. Dean (and Harold), Shirley M. Dean (and Bob), and Alice Jordan; . Though no longer walking alongside them, Mary carried their memories close to her heart always.
