Mary Rebecca Newsome

Mary Rebecca “Becky” Newsome (nee Hollar) of Milford, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2023, at the age of 97 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Huntington, West Virginia and came to Cincinnati during WWII as a cadet nurse at UC College of Nursing. She married Thomas Newsome from Huntington on April 23, 1949, also studying in Cincinnati after the war. Becky served as a public health nurse in Cincinnati for two years. Once she started a family, motherhood became her favorite role in life. She later helped countless children for 24 years as a school nurse in Milford. Becky and her friends loved the Reds, and she attended games into her 90’s. She was a devoted member of Milford First United Methodist Church for over 55 years. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas Newsome; survived by her children and their spouses Tim (Kathy), Ted, and Julie (Donald); cherished grandchildren Tom (Nicole), Jenny (Stephen), Beth, Laura (Adam), Bethany (Missy), and her great-grandchildren Harrison, Ben, Phyllida, St. John, Finn, Ronan, Rex, Conor, Bodie, and Sage and her siblings Libby Ann and Bobby. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 19 at Milford First United Methodist Church, 541 Main Street, Milford, Ohio 45150. Visitation at 10 AM, service at 11 AM, and reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Becky’s name to organizations dear to her.
