A Life that Brought Glory to God
Mary Florence Whalen (née Huseman, née Davis)
Born June 30, 1943
Mary died peacefully and comfortably after a long struggle with dementia on November 3rd, 2026.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, John Wesley Whalen; two children, Jody Eichhorn Davis and Luke Davis; her grandson Maxwell Schaaf Davis; her brother Michael Huseman, and her sisters Ann Huseman, Betty Gazaway, Martha Huseman.
She is preceded in death by her parents Al and Mary Ann Huseman, and her brothers Al Huseman and Bill Huseman.
Mary led a fascinating and well-accomplished life. Drawn initially to the service of God, she spent two years preparing for life as a Catholic nun in the Sisters of Mercy, but found her eventual calling in a number of equally blessed service roles, as an ICU nurse, a mother, an artist, a nursing instructor, and a music leader at her church. A kind woman by nature, she made it her business to be a caregiver to anyone in need. In her spare time, she read—and re-read—everything Agatha Christie ever wrote. In response to prayers from a co-worker named Carla, Mary met, and fell deeply in love with, her savior, Jesus Christ. A year later, in 1988, she met and married a man equally in love with Jesus, her husband John Whalen, to whom she remained devoted for 38 years.
