Patricia A. Scherer

Scherer, Patricia Ann (nee Robinson), age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

Patricia was born on June 23, 1930 in Chicago, IL and is preceded in death by her parents Josephine Marks and J. Girard Robinson, her husband James Paul Scherer, and her sister and brother-in-law Joan and Tom Fallert.

Pat is survived by sons Jay (Amy) and Mark (Lynn), grandchildren Paul, Sarah, Clay, Ellen, Patrick and Anna Marie Scherer and Kathryn (Danny) Tilmes, and great grandson JD Tilmes.

Pat was a graduate of DeSales Heights Visitation Academy in Parkersburg, WV and graduated valedictorian of her class. She went on to Edgecliff College in Cincinnati where she met her future husband at Xavier University and made many lifelong friends. She continued her education and received her Masters’ Degree in Social Work at St. Louis University, along with graduate studies at Catholic University of America, Smith College, and the University of Chicago. Pat had a long and impactful career in social work at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital and the University of Cincinnati, and served as an adjunct professor at UC Clermont where she was instrumental in the development of the Department of Social Work.

Pat served on several community service boards and committees and was a well-known and well respected member of the social work community. She was dedicated to her family, friends, pets, community, and religious life. She was a devout Roman Catholic and befriended many nuns and priests over the years. We will never forget her twinkling blue eyes, giving spirit, greetings of “Yoo Hoo, “many, many photographs, love for people, and always referring to her grandchildren as “cute as Christmas.” She was truly one of a kind!

Services will be held on Friday, August 4 at 1:00 pm at St. Gertrude Church in Madeira, followed by a reception at Maketewah

Country Club. Private burial will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be directed to Clermont Senior Services, St. Vincent de Paul, or Hospice of Cincinnati.
