The Rev. ROBERT EUGENE REYNOLDS
The Rev. Dr. Robert Eugene Reynolds completed his earthly ministry on Sunday, July 12, 2020, following a valiant struggle with cancer. Born in Prescott, AZ, February 7, 1937, to Fred Kilby and Miriam Evelyn Reynolds, Fr. Bob's ministry graced the West Coast following a BA in History, Arizona State University, 1963; Master of Divinity, the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, 1966; and ordination, 1966. Fr. Bob's leadership skills were employed in congregations and on numerous committees and councils through his ministry years. In recognition of his outstanding service to faith communities throughout the West, he was honored with a Doctorate of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 2012.
Marriage to Elizabeth Walter on May 28, 1989 created a blended family of three children, Sarah Kingrey, Patrick Reynolds (Christina), and Amy Di Barbora (Marino); three stepchildren, Anne Bruce, Jeremy Bruce (Carol), and Jonathan Bruce (Sameeksha); 11 grandchildren from both families and seven great-grandchildren. His brother Les Reynolds (Bebee), also survives.
His inquisitive mind, mellow voice proclaiming the Good News, deep love of Jesus, abiding faith in God's healing power, compassion for all, and even the talents of a carpenter's hands enhanced the churches he served and endeared Fr. Bob to his congregations: St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Walnut Creek, CA, 1989-2005; Christ Church Parish, Lake Oswego, OR, 1979-1989; All Saints Episcopal Church, Richland, WA, 1971-1979; St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Salem, OR, 1966-1971. In 2005, he retired to be near family in Cincinnati. Active retirement found him serving St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Terrace Park, OH 2006-2020. As Interim Rector from 2008-2010, he aided in the renewal of the parish. Always a spiritual companion and faithful friend, Fr. Bob maintained contact with many in his former congregations and was grateful to hear from so many in his last few months.
A family service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and a congregational Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a future date. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be given to honor Fr. Bob's life and ministry to the Organ Fund or the Parish Discretionary Assistance Fund of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 100 Miami Ave., Terrace Park, OH 45174.
