Stephen Wright George

Stephen Wright George passed away in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 30, 2009 after a long and brave struggle with Alzheimer�s Disease. Born in Dekalb, IL on Septermber 11, 1936, Steve was the son of the late Edward L. George and Helen Nygaard George. He is survived by his wife, Martha George, of Milford, OH, a daughter, Elizabeth George, of Larkspur, CA, and son Daniel George and his wife, Elizabeth of Terrace Park, OH. He is also survived by four granddaughters and a brother, Dorrance George, of Elgin, IL. Steve grew up in Sycamore, IL and loved to tell stories about his football days and the fun he had with his many friends and relatives. He had a strong work ethic and put himself through Beloit College working three jobs before beginning a long and successful sales and marketing career in the health care industry which spanned over thirty years. Steve retired in 1998. The George family lived in Wilton, CT from 1968-1990 at which time Steve and Marty moved to Woodstock, CT where they lived until recently. An avid story teller and practical joker, Steve touched everyone in his life with his thoughtfulness and acts of kindness. He was known for clipping articles from various papers and sending them, along with humorous notes to friends in many places. Steve cared a great deal about others and volunteered as a Big Brother, helped at the Community Kitchen, and enjoyed working with his friends at the Woodstock Fair. He was the first to reach out to anyone he thought needed a helping hand and, when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer�s Disease, was far more concerned about the well being of his wife and immediate family than what was to become of himself. Steve spent much of the last of his cognitive time making sure that all was well for those he cared so much about, including his beloved dogs. A funeral service was held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Terrace Park, OH and the family is planning a celebration of his life in Woodstock, CT in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, CT, the Alzheimer�s Association, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
