Vito (Vic) Ranieri, age 92, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. He was the first born son of the late Nick Ranieri and Angelina Mancini Ranieri. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Dominic Ranieri, and survived by one sister, Rose Marie Santoro. He was the lovingly devoted father of Victoria Marie Ranieri, Nick Ranieri (deceased), and Vito Ranieri. He also was the very proud and treasured grandfather of Clayton and Samantha Ranieri, Antonio and Dominic Ranieri, Christina and Annamaria Ranieri. Vic enlisted in the Navy after Pearl Harbor and, after basic training, served as a Morse code radio operator. During his service in World War II, he played an integral role in a mission which successfully landed 150 soldiers on the beach at Normandy. Two weeks after surviving this horrific event, Vic was commissioned to Paris for a brief reprieve. After returning home, he gained employment in the food service industry which later led to a career in catering. For his sacrifices in WWII, Vic was recently honored as a recipient of Honor Flight. He was flown to Washington, D.C. where he was able to visit memorials built to honor his service to our nation. With much gratitude for having had this privilege bestowed upon him, the family kindly asks for any memorials to be directed to the Honor Flight, Inc., Attn: Diane Gresse, 300 E. Auburn Ave., Springfield, OH 45505-4703. This can also be done online via www.honorflight.org. All donations are tax deductible. A celebration of life service will be planned at the home of Vickie Ranieri on Sunday, October 18th (anniversary of Vics 93rd birthday).
